Ever-changing color spectrum integrated into hotel design

Jumer’s Casino and Hotel in Rock Island, Ill., was completed in December 2008 and was designed to bring a Las Vegas-style gaming experience to Illinois. Owned by Rock Island Boatworks Inc., the
$151 million state-of-the-art casino and hotel replaces its Casino Rock Island riverboat. The complex features a 170,000-square-foot
(15,793-m2) casino and entertainment center connected to a 270,000-square foot (25,083-m2), five-story, 205-room hotel with 11 luxury suites. The facility includes a 43,000-square foot(3,995-m2) one-level casino floor, banquet center with seating for 700, four restaurants, events center, night club, indoor pool, spa and hair-styling salon, and a retail gift shop. The casino offers 1,200 games, as well as a VIP lounge, high-limits slot areaand a large poker room.

Mooresville, N.C.-based Alcan Composites USA Inc. supplied 57,083 square feet (5,303 m2)of 0.16-inch (4-mm) Alucobond ACM wall panels, including 36,580 square feet (3,398 m2) in Spectra Cupral and 20,503 square feet (1,905 m2) in custom Texas Copper. The Alucobond Spectra Colors is a new color finishing system that allows a unique,ever-changing color spectrum to be incorporated into the building cladding. The colors change as different wavelengths of light are reflected back to the viewer, depending on the viewing angle.

KKE Architects Inc., Minneapolis, was the architect; Kraus-Anderson Construction Co., Minneapolis,was the general contractor; and EBP LLC, Excelsior, Minn., was the distributor. The Alucobond ACMpanels were installed with a rout and return wet seal method by Maplewood, Minn.-based M.G. McGrath Inc. Architectural Sheet Metal on the casino and by Omaha, Neb.-based SGH Inc. on the hotel.
