High school field reaches championship level

The Clinton High School Athletic Field in Clinton, Miss., houses the high school baseball field, and was in need of an overhaul to match the more sophisticated, modern design of other sports facilities in the complex.

JH&H Architects, Jackson, Miss., received the assignment to redesign the ball field so it could accommodate championship games and tournaments unsuitable at the old facility. The complex includes a new 5,400-square-foot (502-m2) covered practice facility for baseball and softball, a 1,655-square-foot (154-m2) locker room building, an 800-square-foot (74-m2) restroom facility, two new 900-square-foot (84-m2) dugout and new bleachers. The architect was also asked to redesign an existing entrance building to the complex and a concession stand, totaling 1,300square feet (121 m2).

Designer Lauren Alford chose brick and standing seam for the exteriors and roofs of the new buildings, stripping down the walls of the concession stand to match them. The school logo for Clinton High School is a red and white arrow and Alford specified an Englert Series 1300 Deep Red standing-seam material from Perth Amboy N.J.-based Englert Inc., to match the school color and provide a unifying theme for all the buildings in the complex. Mid-State Roofing, Pearl, Miss., installed the new roofs.

The interior of the concession stand was completely redesigned with new equipment and service areas for fans.
