Metal building provides economical solution

The 20,500-square-foot (1,904-m2) Stoughton Roadretail center in Madison, Wis., utilized a metal building, StarShield roof system and wall panels from Oklahoma City-based Star Building Systems. All steel for the project was provided by Star; however the exterior light-gauge framing around the perimeter utilized conventional construction, such as masonry block, Hardie board and horizontal siding. Completed in December 2008, the metal building provided an economical solution for the project, while still being able to accommodate the exterior finishes approved by the city of Madison’s Urban Design Commission. The Star builder, Madison-based KSW Construction Corp., and the architect, Dimension IV-Madison LLC, Madison, put together the plan for this project that saved the building owner nearly $50,000 by using innovative solutions. Badgerland Metal Building Erectors, Waunakee, Wis., was the steel erector.
