New Belgium Brewing, Asheville, N.C.

New Belgium Brewing wanted an industrial, artisan aesthetic for the design of its brewery and restaurant facility in Asheville, N.C. It is located in an arts district. To create the look, Perkins+Will specified metal roof and soffit panels.

Kevin Turner, AIA, LEED AP, principal at Perkins+Will, says “This project was about exposing the making of beer. Beer is brewed in metal. With metal, you can fold it, package it, paint it, and there's no mistaking what it is. It's metal and it matched the whole ethos of what the owner wanted. It was an affordable way to meet their goals. You really couldn't do a project like this without metal.”

AAR Roofing and Sheet Metal Co. installed 354 squares of McElroy Metal’s 16-inch-wide, 24-gauge Medallion-Lok metal roof panels in Silver Metallic. For soffits, the company installed 107 squares of McElroy Metal’s 12-inch-wide, 24-gauge Marquee-Lok metal soffit panels in Silver Metallic. AAR Roofing and Sheet Metal formed trims on the job site with 300 sheets of McElroy Metal’s 24-gauge flat sheet in Metallic Silver, and the project was completed in May 2016.
