Ocean City Community Center, Ocean City, N.J.

ocean_city_community_centerThe Ocean City Community Center in
Ocean City, N.J., originally began as a modest fitness center with racquetball courts, with an included natatorium and library. Due to decisions made by community leaders, several additions were added onto the community center. The additions included a 35,000-square-foot renovation that features 16-inch, 0.40-inch aluminum R-Mer Span standing seam metal roof panels from The Garland Co. Inc., Cleveland. The roof and modified areas are covered by a 20-year warranty.

The panels can withstand the most severe weather conditions, providing the durability and watertight integrity needed for long-term performance. In addition to its strength and unsurpassed watertight protection, the standing seam metal system helped dramatically change the look of the building, taking it from a boxy, warehouse structure to a visually appealing facility that is more welcoming to the community it is intended to serve. A concealed-clip wall panel system was installed over the building’s existing split face block walls to improve aesthetics and provide further watertight protection. An integral part of the project included creating a custom legacy blue color for the metal panels to match the new fenestration system.

Garrison Architects, Marlton, N.J., served as the project architect, while Arthur J. Ogren Inc., Vineland, N.J., was the general contractor and installer.
