American Fork, Utah-based TRA Snow and Sun Standing Seam Clamps were installed on Cabela’s roof to protect people from snow and ice avalanches in Christina, Del.

Snow falls in Christiana between December and March and has a snow load of 25 pounds per square foot. Cabela’s roof rises 8 inches every 12 inches. H.K. Griffith Inc., Newark, Del., selected TRA Snow and Sun’s C-2-1-Z one rail standing seam clamp, which is tightened down with a torque wrench and two 9/16-inch nuts, for the retailer’s roof. The parts and clamps were powder coated to match the roof.

Jake Owsley, inside sales representative at TRA Snow and Sun, says it was important to design a system that took into account the region’s specific snow load, the roof type and slope. “If those things aren’t calculated, the customer is taking chances on the snow fence being able to hold back an avalanche resulting in roof damage, injury, and even death,” Owsley says.

The Christiana store is the first Cabela’s in Delaware and the 48th location in the U.S.; it is expected to open in spring 2014.
