Pre-engineered metal building cuts project costs

The Great Lakes Naval Museum and Memorial in Muskegon, Mich., was completed in June 2008, and features a metal building, roof and wallpanels from Eufaula, Ala.-based American Buildings Co. Stephen Parker, Muskegon, was the architect and Hughes Builders Inc., Muskegon, was the general contractor, erector and installer. By utilizing a pre-engineered metal building, the cost of the project was cut by $400,000.

American Buildings supplied its Single Slope/ Rigid Frame metal building systems for the 28,534-square-foot (2,651-m2) building that was 110 feet (34 m) long by 150 feet (46 m) wide with 24-foot
(7-m) eave heights. American Buildings also supplied 16,500 square feet (1,533 m2) of its 24-gauge Standing Seam II metal roofing panels in Aluminum coat made from a 70 percent PVDF resin supplied as Kynar 500 or Hylar 500 manufactured by Pittsburgh-based PPG Industries, and its Architectural wall panels with multipanel accents in Blue Gray, Pearl Gray and Regal Blue trim. The coating is a SmartKote 70 percent PVDF resin supplied as Kynar 500 or Hylar 500 manufactured by PPG.
