Fairview Architectural, Bloomfield, Conn., supplied 6,000 square feet of its Vitrabond Aluminum Composite Panels in Champagne Metallic VB9205 to create a custom-color visual effect on the Merrifield City Display Center, Victoria, Australia.
Vitrabond Champagne Metallic VB9205 is a standard metallic color that was used in a different way to create the look. Coil-coated panels with a metallic finish must be installed in the same direction to ensure a uniform appearance. The protective film applied to Vitrabond Aluminum Composite Panels has visible arrows to ensure uniform installation.
Some architects and designers have learned to use this directional finish to create a non-uniform appearance. Panels can be cut and installed in varying directions, reflecting the light sporadically. This creates the visual illusion of differing colors or textures.
In addition to aesthetics, by using a standard color and rotating the direction of the installed pan els, materials cost may be reduced. Vitrabond also offers a color-changing Chromatic series of colors called the VITRA FX line. A conventional installation method of installation would have required using multiple custom colors to achieve a similar effect on the Merrifield City Display Center, designed and constructed by Modscape, Brooklyn, Victoria.
