The Raleigh Architecture Co. designed a private residence in Raleigh, N.C., to use natural topography and opening placement to alleviate sound and establish privacy. It features a central volume that provides natural daylight and a twisting, custom steel staircase. The Raleigh Architecture selected horizontal metal wall panels with various proportions to accent the long, narrow form and break down the scale of the house, completed in May 2014.

Western Metal Deck supplied 1,850 square feet of its 22-gauge A606 RustWall Panels in 10-inch, 16-inch and 20-inch widths. Additionally, Western Metal Deck supplied A606 trim and custom profiles. Weathered steel panels on the upper story were designed to convey warmth will patina from a dark smooth finish to a textured rusted appearance. Cypress siding was specified to root the 2,300-square-foot residence in the landscape.
