Located in Goshen, Conn., construction on the 6,000- square-foot (557-m2) Action Wildlife Museum was completed in July 2008. The $2.8 million museum showcases taxidermy animals from all over the world displayed in their natural settings, including two natural waterfalls. A large covered pavilion with picnic tables for guests is located in the back of the museum.
Metallic Building Co., Houston, supplied a preengineered metal building with a 1:12 roof slope, in addition to Ultra-Dek roof panels. The durable and weathertight panels feature an interlocking snap seam for faster and easier installation and a more efficient erection process.
The environmentally conscious project uses a high-efficiency HVAC and electrical system, in addition to R-30 roof insulation, low-volume plumbing features and natural stone on the exterior.
The builder was able to combine three buildings to an existing 60- by 170- by 22-foot (18- by 52- by 7-m) structure with a completely new fit-out that included a new elevator.
Joseph Alicata, East Hartland, Conn., was the architect; RJB Contracting Inc., Torrington, Conn., was the contractor; and New England Steel Erectors, Litchfield, Conn., was the erector and roofing contractor.
