Building Systems Design, Inc. (BSD) and Submittal Exchange, LLC. Atlanta, Ga., announced a strategic partnership for joint marketing of BSD SpecLink and Submittal Exchange, the primary products of the two companies. The products of the two companies are complementary, according to Matt Ostanik, AIA, LEED(R) AP, president of Submittal Exchange, and Robert Dean, AIA, president of Building Systems Design. Dean and Ostanik say that because the buyers of both products tend to be technologically savvy, and because the products work well together, it benefits users of both systems to be educated on additional efficiencies for their construction administration. Specifications are produced by BSD SpecLink in a database that allows automatic generation of many reports, including submittals reports. These reports, in turn, can be utilized by Submittal Exchange in setting up projects for submittals management in their online system. According to Ostanik, “managing submittals by conventional means is a major problem during the construction process. Submittal Exchange’s Integrated Product Collaboration (IPC) software that automates the submittals process, decreases paperwork, speeds up the transactions, and maintains a log of all the submittals activities.” Dean points out that specifications produced by BSD SpecLink can be delivered electronically to Submittal Exchange and set up for submittals management in a fraction of the time required by conventional methods. Under the cooperative marketing agreement signed by BSD and Submittal Exchange, each company will include information about the other company on its website and will promote each other in periodic newsletters, email communications to customers, and various other media. In addition, BSD SpecLink will include information about Submittal Exchange in its specifications content and will enable its users to specify the services of Submittal Exchange with a single mouse click.
