The Construction Specifications Institute, Alexandria, Va., has named Gilman K. M. Hu, FCSI, AIA, president. Hu is an architect in private practice in Honolulu and is the first president to come from the Honolulu chapter. Born in China, he also isthe first Asian-American president. Hu joined the institute in 1967 as a charter member of the Honolulu chapter. He has served in nearly every leadership position since joining, from Honolulu chapter president to west region conference chairman to vice president-professional on the national level. He has been a member of the national awards committee, nominating committee and jury of fellows. He is the founder and publisher of The Fellows newsletter, which is distributed to the institute’s fellows. Hu earned his bachelor’s degree in architecture from Washington University in St. Louis. He is a member emeritus of the American Institute of Architects, Washington, D.C. “I am humbled by this honor, and I look forward to leading this organization, which has done so much for me,” Hu said. “I am going to focus on improving CSI’s communications and how members experience CSI at the chapter level.” Said CSI Executive Director and CEO Walter Marlowe: “We are excited that Mr. Hu will be serving as CSI’s new president. Gilman brings many years of leadership experience to the position and a keen focus on improving the CSI membership experience. We look forward to working with him to continue advancing CSI initiatives such as GreenFormat.”
