In San Pedro, Calif., West Harbor is boldly reimagining the LA waterfront “as Southern California’s next great coastal destination”.
The $500 million, 42-acre development replaces Ports O’ Call Village, a waterfront retail and recreation destination developed in 1963. Led by Jerico Development and The Ratkovich Company—in partnership with SSA Marine and the Port of Los Angeles—West Harbor spans one mile of direct waterfront access, and features a harbor promenade, boutique amusement park, and a curated mix of dining and entertainment.
Phase 1B of the development, which has achieved LEED v4 Platinum certification, incorporates three pre-engineered metal buildings supplied by EcoSteel that meet the area’s demanding seismic design requirements. The structures provide open interiors intended to accommodate future tenant needs.

This section of the development, designed by Studio One Eleven and built by Matt Construction, faces a public waterfront promenade and play area, making the durability and visual quality of the exterior envelope especially important.
Set along the waterfront, the buildings are exposed to wind-driven rain, salt spray, and corrosive coastal air. The metal facade system functions as a rainscreen, as marine-grade coatings protect the interior and exterior metal panels. The custom finish withstands corrosion and chalking in its coastal location, helping the design maintain its clean, sleek profile over time.
Standing seam insulated metal roof panels support the structure’s industrial aesthetic, provide continuous insulation, and serve as an air and water barrier. The system’s stark white coloring and profile complement the panels on the facade, coated in gray and white finishes. Large, glazed openings and exposed steel framing complement the clean architectural style.
