The International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) has announced WELL Interiors, a designation for interior spaces that support health and well-being. Designed for architects, interior designers, and design-build firms, it applies evidence-based strategies from all 10 WELL concepts to elements within the design team’s control, offering renovation projects a streamlined path to certification without broader operational requirements.
“Our primary goal is to support the A&D community with a designation that recognizes holistic health and well-being achievements, while offering a streamlined documentation process that preserves the health focus through value engineering,” said Ann Marie Aguilar, IWBI’s senior vice president for the EMEA region.
IWBI says the designation will help protect health-focused design through value engineering and independent verification, and cites potential benefits including higher productivity, occupant satisfaction and commercial rents. An international working group is helping shape the designation, and IWBI is inviting further industry participation ahead of its preview and launch.
