New metal roofs complete four-year renovation

The Orlando World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Fla., needed to do a total replacement of a 21-year-old metal standing-seam roof that had weathered various tropical storms and hurricanes. Elk Grove Village, Ill.-based Petersen Aluminum Corp. supplied its PAC-CLAD material for the roofs on the Mikado Japanese Steak House, Hawk’s Landing Steak House and golf pro shop.

The project utilized 25,000 square feet (2,323 m2) of 24-gauge, 12-inch- (305-mm-) wide SNAPCLAD panels and 20,000 square feet
(1,858 m2)of flat stock for flashings. The panels are finished with PAC-CLAD Kynar 500 Forest Green.

Part of the final phase of a four-year renovation that replaced all roofs on the property, Petersen was selected for the availability of stock PAC-CLAD Forest Green metal panels to match the existing roofs and its Florida Product Approval and Miami-Dade Approval. Installation was challenging due to limited lay-down space and continued operation of the 2,000- room resort at 90 percent occupancy during the renovation. Petersen fabricated the SNAPCLAD panels and Atlanta-based Nations Roof South LLC utilized a 53-foot
(16-m) portable sheet-metal shop to fabricate the trim, gutters, downspouts and coping.

Building Consultants Ltd., Arlington Heights, Ill., was the architect, and Commercial Roofing Specialties, College Park, Ga., was the distributor.
