The U.S. Green Building Council, Washington, D.C., and Island Press, Washington, have teamed up to launch GreenWorks, a book club that will offer books on green building at discounted prices. GreenWorks, created expressly for U.S. Green Building Council members, will offer new selections each month while also connecting readers to the latest green building industry books. “This book club is about starting a conversation,” said Peter Templeton, senior vice president of USGBC. “USGBC members are full of ideas and solutions. The book club will offer professionals a place to connect with others in the field; share their thoughts on various books, ideas and authors; as well as learn more about all things green building.” Books are selected on a monthly basis by a panel of experts and are available for purchase from Island Press at www.islandpress.org/usgbc.

This Month’s Features

Designing for Thermal Resilience
The choices made in materials, shading, and energy systems will determine whether buildings remain safe havens or become liabilities.

Best Practices for Coatings in Resilient Metal Architecture
High-performance coatings, such as polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-based coatings, add upfront expense but reduce or even eliminate costly recoats/replacement later in the building’s life.

A Slam-dunk Metal Modernization
The building’s striking facade features black metal panels, installed in a cohesive pattern at a 45-degree angle.
Fire Protection Specifications for Metal Buildings
