METALCON looks ahead to 2027

METALCON expanded Spanish-language education through its new Latino Track and presented a $4,000 donation to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

METALCON celebrated its 35th anniversary in Orlando, bringing together professionals from across the metal construction industry. The Oct. 7–9 event featured 273 exhibitors, which was up 9.2% from 2025, and attendance rose more than 5%, with total registration up 9%, said METALCON.

Some takeaways from the event include:

  • A mixed construction outlook: Economist Kermit Baker cited inflation, high borrowing and material costs, labor shortages, and project delays. Data centers were a standout growth area, while overall construction spending was expected to remain flat this year and rise modestly next year.
  • Leadership lessons: Adding a different perspective, former MLB pitcher Jim Abbott shared lessons from his career, and spoke about creativity, accountability, and trusting your preparation.
  • Collaboration and community support: The Design-to-Manufacture-to-Build Live experience brought manufacturers together to frame a 490-square-foot tiny home in three days. The home will go to a Tunnel to Towers Veterans Village, and METALCON attendees donated $4,000 to the foundation in support of veterans, first responders, and families of fllen service members.
  • Expanded education and connections: The new Latino Track offered Spanish-language education, while FORGE, METALCON’s expanded program for women in the industry, connected professionals in various stages of their careers. The inaugural 40 Under 40 program recognized 40 emerging professionals and is planned to return in 2027.

METALCON 2027 is scheduled for Oct. 26–28 in Louisville, Kentucky.
