New HPDC tools streamline WELL-aligned product specification

The International WELL Building Institute and the Health Product Declaration Collaborative have launched an initiative intended to streamline manufacturers’ use of health product declarations (HPDs) while pursuing Works with WELL recognition.

New functions in HPDC’s HPD Builder will allow manufacturers to pre-check and pre-qualify products against selected WELL Materials requirements before entering the formal Works with WELL application process. The organizations also plan enhanced filtering in the HPD Public Repository and WELL Directory to help architects, designers, and other project team members identify relevant products.

“As the market increasingly prioritizes health and sustainability, manufacturers and project teams need simpler, more connected ways to navigate product information,” says Jessica Cooper, IWBI chief product officer. “Our collaboration with HPDC helps simplify that journey by building on existing transparency efforts, removing duplicative workload and improving access to information that supports healthier and more sustainable building decisions.”

The partnership allows manufacturers to build on qualifying existing HPDs rather than recreating product-transparency information across platforms. Early users of the HPD Builder pre-check and pre-qualification tools may receive incentives when applying for Works with WELL licensing.

“Manufacturers have already done the hard work of disclosing what’s in their products. This collaboration lets them put that existing transparency data to work toward the Works with WELL recognition instead of recreating it,” says Wendy Vittori, executive director of HPDC.
