Cherry School, Iron, Minn.

Owned by the St. Louis County Schools, the
Cherry School in Iron, Minn., is home to kindergarten through 12th grade. The 9,000-square-foot building was completed in September 2011. The architect was Architectural Resources Inc., Duluth, Minn., and the general contractor was Kraus-Anderson Construction Co., Bemidji, Minn.

Metal fabricator and installer, MG McGrath, Maplewood, Minn., installed 2,800 square feet of Weert, Netherlands-based Trespa International B.V.’s 3/8-inch Meteon TS 150 wall panels with a satin finish in Mahogany Red, Silver Grey, Sienna Brown, Anthracite Grey and Copper Yellow at the building’s main entrance. All the seams have 0.040-black closure strips installed. MG McGrath installed an aluminum extrusion from through Dens- Glass gypsum by Georgia-Pacific Building Products, Atlanta, and into the stud framing.

MG McGrath also installed 6,200 square feet of 24-gauge VR Classic Omega wall panels in a Stone White Kynar finish from Firestone Metal Products, Anoka, Minn. The panels were installed vertically over the gypsum and Gig Harbor, Wash.-based VaproShield underlayment. Metal was selected for this project for the custom color options, as well as the precision that was needed on the radius of the panels.
