Custom patterns add to skylight design

Completed in 2007, Luther Midelfort in Eau Claire, Wis., features Mequon, Wis.-based Super Sky’s vault skylight with gable ends, measuring 48 by 140 feet (15 by 43 m), and consisting of Owatonna, Minn.-based Viracon’s VE1-2M clear, low-E, heat-strengthened glass including some lites with a custom pattern, white silkscreen, and full-depth, insulated panels comprised of polyisocyanurate insulation and 3/16-inch (5-mm) aluminum for the panels’ interior and exterior.

The skylight’s exterior, aluminum framing and panels were finished by Wausau,Wis.- based Linetec using a Mica in-house blend color, Champagne Gold. This 70 percent PVDF, Fluropon coating was spray-applied as an AAMA 2605-compliant, two-coat finish. On the skylight’s interior framing, Lintec used an Acro-bond baked enamel, spray applied, AAMA 2603-compliant finish in Worldly Gray. All the other interior aluminum components were finished in Acro-Bond Shoji White.

Mayo Health System owns the hospital; Ellerbe Becket, Minneapolis, was the architect; and Market & Johnson Inc., Eau Claire, was the general contractor.
