Norcross, Ga.-based Kawneer Co. Inc. supplied a variety of architectural aluminum products for the new $625 million Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The green facility used Kawneer’s curtainwalls, sunshades and thermally broken windows and doors to maximize daylighting and thermal performance.
Kawneer supplied its 1600 Wall System 1curtainwall, 8225TL ISOLOCK windows, 1600 Sun- Shade, 1600 Sloped Glazing, Trifab VG 450 Framing System, Trifab VG 451T Framing System, 560 Insulclad Thermal Entrances, 500 Wide Stile Standard Entrances and Flushline Entrances.
Kawneer’s curtainwall envelopes much of the vibrant colorful palette of the hospital’s exterior and adds both light and drama to the four-story atrium that extends to the rooftop healing garden, while Kawneer’s windows,overhead glazing and curtainwall systems promote healthy, natural light. Fixed an operable windows make each of the nine floors lighter and brighter, contributing to an enhanced therapeutic environment. Additionally, Kawneer’s thermal entrances and framing systems help improve energy performance, while the 1600 SunShade helps to reduce solar heat gain.
