Using a variety of metal panels including insulated metal panels (IMPs), Paone Architecture PC broke up a large exterior for Impact Athletic Center Inc. in Halfmoon, N.Y.

The 6,781.9 m2 (73,000 sf) sports complex houses six hardwood basketball courts, a training room, two fitness studios, recovery room with cryotherapy and massage chairs, childcare area, and café. Additionally, there are outdoor sand courts for volleyball, and strength and conditioning resistance.

John Paone, RA, of Paone Architecture, says, “While there were no specific goals from the client, they knew they wanted a dynamic looking building, something that reflected the building’s purpose. By mixing the metal panel colors and textures, we were able to design a building facade that breaks down the overall scale of the exterior and not end up with a static looking box. We know we have accomplished this when we hear people say they didn’t realize how big it is inside until they actually walk inside and see the multiple courts.”

Paone says IMPs met multiple project requirements including those for building and energy codes, construction schedule and budget.

Munter Enterprises Inc. installed Metl-Span’s CF Mesa IMPs with 26-gauge steel exterior skins in Mesa Light profile and Sandstone coating, and 26-gauge steel interior skins in Igloo White.

At corners of the building and the entrance, Munter vertically installed Petersen Aluminum Corp.’s PAC-CLAD Reveal Panels in Interstate Blue.

Todd Coffin, project coordinator at Munter says, “Because we’re self-performing the bulk of the construction, scheduling is easier and more efficient. The use of insulated metal panels allowed us to quickly enclose the structure during winter months to keep the project schedule on track.”
