The high-tech modernization of Terminal B at the Liberty International Airport in Newark, N.J., utilized three types of flexible track products from Flex-Ability Concepts, Oklahoma City.
The modernization strategy called for turning a former ground-floor parking area into a 70,000- square-foot (6,503-m2) baggage claim space for domestic arrivals. The Terminal B improvements are part of an overall $279 million renovation of the entire terminal to accommodate growing passenger volume.
Flex-Ability Concepts supplied more than 7,800 linear feet (2,377 m) of Flex-C Trac, Flex-C Arch and Flex-C Angle that was used to create extensive curved soffits and radiuses throughout the facility.
“We had all of these ellipses to do, and we used all three Flex products on each one. It’s the only way to go,” said Terrence Barry, project foreman for the installer, McCann Acoustics and Construction Inc., Bloomfield, N.J. “When we first started the job, we looked into buying a crimper, but we would have been crimping the job for months, maybe years. Flex-C Trac really makes it easy-and you don’t need somebody to be an expert at it. It’s easy to install and saves a lot of time and manpower.”
The general contractor was VRH Construction Corp., Englewood, N.J., and the distributor was K.B. Elmwood Supply Co. Inc., Garfield, N.J.
