Hospital undergoes addition, renovation

St. Clair Hospital in Pittsburgh is an independent community hospital providing comprehensive, high-quality care to the residents of southwestern Pennsylvania. The hospital recently underwent a renovation and emergency department addition.

IKM Inc., Pittsburgh, a health care planning and design firm, created a plan that called for the construction of a new addition expanding the capacity of emergency services. A renovation of the existing department was integrated into the project to upgrade patient-flow efficiencies with the addition to reflect current care delivery models. Interior finishes were also updated. The project consisted of two phases, allowing the emergency department to remain fully operational during construction.

IKM’s new emergency department design was developed in a collaborative effort with St. Clair’s staff and administration to create a modern, dramatic new look for the hospital.

The project used 16,650 square feet (1,547 m2) of Envelope 2000 aluminum faced composite wall panels by Citadel Architectural Products Inc., Indianapolis. The panels were attached using a Rout
& Return system.

Tedco Construction, Carnegie, Pa., was the general contractor; R.J. Bridges Co., Carnegie, was the distributor; East Coast Metal Systems, Bellaire, Ohio, was the fabricator;and Burns and Scalo Roofing Co., Pittsburgh, was the installer.
