The IW Club, Indian Wells Golf Resort’s new clubhouse, opened to the public on Aug. 15, 2008. The 53,000-square-foot (4,924-m2) building has quickly become the centerpiece of the community with a golf shop, Callaway Performance Center, bar and grill, fine dining, private dining, gourmet café, meeting space, putting course, patios, event lawns, and a 2,640-square foot(245-m2) grand lobby that creates a rich and varied experience that moves well beyond the ordinary golfer’s auxiliary to capture the essence of the California desert lifestyle.
A popular golf destination for decades, Indian Wells Golf Resort has become even more popular since its two new golf courses opened to public play. The state-of-the-art clubhouse facility complements the new golf courses, providing additional lifestyle opportunities for those staying at the four adjacent resort/spas and endowing the residents of Indian Wells with a truly unique place to call their own.
Designed by Douglas Fredrikson Architects, the desert modern-style IW Club features sandstone walls, large expanses of glass, metal roofing, limestone and granite accents, in addition to stainless-steel detailing. A veritable sheet of water cascades from the front level to a collection pool below, adorning the front Porte Cochere. The interior features warm wood detailing, Travertine floors, leather accents, sculpted carpets and other luxurious appointments.
The project features 10,170 square feet (945 m2) of glass curtainwall from Magik Glass and Door Inc. and 315 tons (284 metric tons) of steel from AmFab Inc. Additionally, Challenger Sheet Metal Inc. supplied 13,000 square feet (1,208 m2) of metal roofing.
Several places in the dining area open up through sliding glass doors for guests to move effortlessly outside to the patios and enjoy the mountain and golf course views. The main dining room offers spectacular views of towering mountains to the south. A major focal point in the building-the golf shop-features high style labels, accessories and a concentration on women’s fashion.
The one-of-a-kind building caters to corporate outings and individual play with its two new outstanding Championship Golf Courses ranked in the Top Ten Municipal Courses in America. Indian Wells is the future of public access and resort golf and a commitment from the city of Indian Wells to its residents to provide the best facility as a point of interest, local dining destination and place to call home.
