One project goal for Burlingame Intermediate School was to create learning spaces filled with natural light. Each classroom in the two-story building has one wall exposed to daylight. Metal roofing accentuates the roof profile, which is an inherent element to directing daylight into the classrooms. The dramatically angled roof profile allows balancing light at the upper floors through clerestory windows and skylights. Additionally, the roof profile provides shade from heat and glare with overhangs.
Jeffco Roofing Co. installed 17,250 square feet of The Garland Co. Inc.’s 22-gauge galvanized steel R-Mer Loc LX metal roof panels in Kynar 500 Light Grey. EFCO Corp. supplied the clerestory windows and Bristolite Daylighting Systems supplied the skylights for the 23,910-square-foot project. It was completed for $10.6 million in August 2016.
