One of the main project goals for Solano County Transit’s (SolTrans) operations and maintenance facility in Vallejo, Calif., was to renovate the building, improve functionality and create a weathertight exterior skin. Metal was used to replace the old metal siding with modern installation techniques, enhance the exterior skin and accent building visibility from the street. Additionally, metal was used for its ease of maintenance and color durability.

The main office area and drivers’ area were remodeled. An addition was built to house a new dispatch center, creating a county emergency operations center. Maintenance bays were expanded, all the exterior siding was replaced and ADA upgrades were made. Approximately 25,700 of existing square feet were renovated. The addition was 1,200 square feet and the total finished size of the building is 26,900 square feet.

Blue Sun Metals Inc. installed Laminators Inc.’s Omega-Lite composite panels in Copper with a rout-and-return install method. Additionally, it installed AEP Span’s HR-36 metal wall panels in Mistique Plus and Sandstone vertically. AEP Span’s Mini-V Beam metal wall panels in Weathered Copper were installed horizontally. The $3.7 million project was completed in September 2015.
