On-demand metal materializes during downtown development

All-American Exterior Solutions, Lake Zurich, Ill., installed 60,000 square feet of 2-inch-thick, 30-inchwide, 22-gauge/26-gauge CFA Architectural Wall Panels in embossed Silver from Lewisville, Texas-based Metl-Span on The Godfrey Hotel Chicago.

Mike Underwood, of All-American Exterior Solutions, says the project was completed in the heart of downtown. "We didn't have room to store that much product during construction, so Metl- Span was very accommodating, delivering what we needed, when we needed it," he says. "The project was completed in nine or 10 phases, and like all projects, the schedule changed a few times, but Metl-Span was able to stay on top of it with us."

Kurt Volkman, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, at Valerio Dewalt Train, Chicago, the architecture firm for the project, says insulated metal panels were selected for their clean, modern, tailored look. "The added benefit of this exterior cladding system was the allin- one installation," he says.

Metl-Span's CFA panels allowed for the installation of weather barrier, insulation and vapor barrier with one product. The Metl-Span panels were installed over stud framing and attached with concealed fasteners in the side joint. Opened in February 2014, the Godfrey Hotel has 221 guest rooms and suites, and is one of the city's newest luxury boutique hotels.
