Rec center features innovative roof and wall applications

Completed in 2008, the Wildcat Recreation Center at California State University, Chico, Calif., features a metal roof and walls from Louisville,Ky.-based Metal Sales Manufacturing Corp.

The challenge was to make the exterior of CSU’s 109,000-square-foot
(10,126-m2) sports and recreation facility look as state-of-the-art as its interior amenities. To accomplish this task, the architects designed contrasting Magna-Loc panels in both roof and wall applications. The structure’s façade features an innovative horizontal Magna-Loc 22-gauge Mistique Plus wall installation offset with Metal Sales’ 24-gauge V Line32 and 1-inch (25-mm) Soffit Panels in Mistique Plus, Duranar Sunstorm Black and 0.04-aluminum Black. This artistic use of metal enhancement offers a dramatic visual sweep to one of the college’s most popular student buildings.

Sasaki Associates Inc., San Francisco, was the architect; John F. Otto Inc., Sacramento, Calif., was the general contractor; and Kodiak Roofing, Lincoln, Calif., was the installer.
