The Sheetz family of Altoona, Pa., founded Sheetz, a convenience store company, more than 60 years ago. To promote health and wellness to their employees, the family opened the Sheetz Shwellness Center in Claysburg, Pa., next to the company’s distribution center.
The architect, Hayes Large Architects, Altoona, chose 7,200 square feet of Allentown, Pa.-based ATAS International Inc.’s 22-gauge Rigid Wall (MFR160) structural wall panels in Silversmith. The center also features 625 square feet of 0.032-inch Dutch Seam
(MRD194) aluminum continuous standing seam panels in Brite Red to add a pop of color to sloped roofing areas. The metal panels were chosen for an aesthetic appeal and to meet green building requirements. Blair Roofing Hollidaysburg, Pa., installed the metal panels.
The LEED-certified, 11,500-square-foot health and fitness center has a quarter-mile outdoor track. In addition to a large variety of indoor gym equipment, the facility also includes a learning center with meeting rooms and video-conferencing capabilities. These were added for educational sessions about how to get fit and remain healthy. The facility is managed by Winooski, Vt.-based Marathon Health Inc., allowing for registered nurses to be part of the center’s team to provide routine medical care, health risk assessments, biometrics screenings, wellness coaching and disease management.
Sheetz CEO Stan Sheetz notes: “Sheetz has been voted by our employees as among the best places to work for more than a decade because we do everything we can to acknowledge their value and keep them happy in their jobs. The Center for Shwellness is part of our culture of wellness, to give employees and their families the tools they need to achieve and maintain good health.”
