Theater serves school and community

The USD 408 Marion-Florence Performing Arts Center in Marion, Kan., was built to support the school’s fine arts and music programs. The 17,500-square-foot (1,626-m2) building seats 500 in stadium-style seating and has a full stage with fl y space. The building is designed to have a civic presence since it will serve both school and community events. The facility also has a music room, changing rooms and large lobby.

MBCI, Houston, supplied 10,600 square feet (985 m2) of 24-gauge Galvalume-coated ShadowRib metal wall panels in the MBCI Signature 300 Series Medium Bronze for the project to complement the brick and help meet project budgets. The colors tie into the metal used on some of the other buildings on the school campus. The ShadowRib panels offered a horizontal profile that provided a nice texture to the building skin that added to the other horizontal lines in the building. Large stone pillars were used to break the horizontal lines of the building and turn the focus toward the entryway.

Spangenberg Phillips, Wichita, Kan., was the architect; Hutton Construction Corp., Wichita, was the general contractor; and Kruse Corp., Wichita, was the metal installer.
