With obsolete HVAC parts and original roofing and flooring that was damaged beyond cost-effective repair, the Lititz, Pa.-based Warwick School District determined its one-story middle school building had outlived its service life. The Warwick Middle School, which was established in 1970, was demolished and reopened in February 2010 as a two-story building with approximately 700 seventh and eighth grade students. The gymnasium was the only part of the original building that was salvaged, although it was completely gutted and replaced with a new roof, interior and windows.
Installation contractor, Kraus Commercial Roofing Inc., Ottsville, Pa., used a six-man crew to install
32,100 square feet of Indianapolis-based Firestone Building Products Co.’s UNA-CLAD UC-3 double-lock architectural series roofing system in Teal and Almond within 12 weeks. Kraus also installed 33,000 square feet of Firestone’s UNA-FAB Series 3000 Aluminum Plate Wall Panels on the middle school roof.
Additionally, 12,000 square feet of the existing roof, as well as 82,700 square feet of new roof, were covered with a fully adhered Firestone Rubber-Gard EPDM Roofing System, which was completed in approximately 13 weeks.
The Firestone metal and EPDM roofing systems were chosen so that the entire school roof would be covered under a single 20-Year Firestone Red Shield Warranty.
RLPS Architects, Lancaster, Pa., was the architect,
and Kraus Commercial Roofing Inc., Ottsville,
Pa., was the general contractor.
