The Metal Roofing Alliance (MRA) released a statement regarding what the trade association describes as an emerging exterior trend called master mixologist, which mixes and matches exterior colors, materials, and uses them in atypical ways.

Renee Ramey, executive director at MRA, says, “Master mixologist is a trend we don’t see slowing down anytime soon. With so many options, patterns and colors now available, the sky’s the limit when it comes to one-of-a-kind style and design. Homeowners are just starting to explore how to combine these different elements in ways that take personalized curb appeal to the next level.”

The MRA describes master mixologist as designs which emphasize roof planes, angles, and details by mixing different roofing material patterns and shades of color. For example, stamped metal panels can be designed to look like slate or stone, and paired with standing seam panels for architectural details including dormers to emphasize them.

In another example of master mixologist, copper accents for overhangs, gutters, and downspouts can be incorporated with an Earth-toned brown or dark gray roof. Alternatively, a tile pattered metal roof in dove gray with smoky blue highlights can be designed to draw attention to architectural features including turrets or gables.

According to the MRA’s statement, master mixologist designs can use a wide variety of paint colors for different exterior elevations, and to emphasize architectural styles and shapes. Also, a variety of materials, conventional and modern, can be used including brick or exposed wood with sleek metal siding, rough cedar shakes with stamped concrete, and conventional composite siding with formed metal panels to highlight front entryways. Other master mixologist designs take the opposite approach and have a seamless, uniform look with one color or exterior material for the majority of a house.
