Retrofit leaves original roof intact

Belle Glade Elementary School, Belle Glade, Fla.

An aging 3000T standing seam metal roof on Belle Glade Elementary School, Belle Glade, Fla., was replaced with 116,600 square feet of 24-gauge, 16-inch-wide, 2500 profile panels in Bone White from Englert Inc., Perth Amboy, N.J.

Tecta America of South Florida Inc., Fort Myers, Fla., installed a Roof Hugger retrofit steel sub-purlin framing system from Lutz, Fla.-based Roof Hugger that allowed the Englert 2500 system to be easily installed without removing the 3000T from the roof. The 3000T roof system was originally specified to meet the low slope and long panel runs needed for the K-5 school.

Zyscovich Inc., Miami, the architectural firm for the project, specified the Englert 2500 system, which meets Miami-Dade and Florida Building Code requirements for wind uplift and has a 20-year weather-tightness warrantee from Englert.
