City Target on State Street in Chicago

The City Target on State Street in Chicago was finished in 2012. The project architect was Target Architects, Minneapolis, and the general contractor was Walsh Construction, Chicago. Installer and fabricator MG McGrath, Maplewood, Minn., perforated and installed 2,100 square feet of 1/8-inch 3003 perforated aluminum with a smooth finish powdercoated in Target Red from Firestone Metal Products, Anoka, Minn., and 1,500 square feet of 1/2- inch MDF in Target Red. The project also features 1,500 square feet of perforated MDF panels with a smooth finish in Target Red. The MDF wood panels were supplied by Acoustigreen, Delano, Minn.

The perforated panels were installed on the first and second floors for the interior and exterior of the building. The MDF panels are located on the second floor and act as a wall to cover up a storage area. Twin City Powder Coating, Lino Lakes, Minn., finished the panels in the custom Target Red color, while Garelik Steel, Minneapolis, provided aluminum tube framing for the project. Target provided the custom perforation patterns that reflect the main “Target” logo. All of the material was cut on MG McGrath’s machine. A local painter in Maplewood painted the MDF panels. All materials had to be shipped right outside of Chicago and then transferred to a smaller truck to get them downtown. Target is very impressed with the finished panels as the panels were a big focal point of the project.
