Omaha, Neb.-based Creighton University‘s Rasmussen Fitness
& Sports Center features a metal building system from Behlen Building Systems, Columbus, Neb. B-D Construction, Columbus, erected the system, which encompasses nearly 40,000 square feet of Behlen’s custom color ZL-24 standing seam roof system. The building also features 12,000 square feet of Houston-based MBCI’s FW-120 concealed fastener wall panel in a custom color. The lower portion of the wall construction, behind the masonry, implemented girts spaced 2 feet on-center and metal building wall panel with brick attached to it.
Nearly 80,000 square feet of Simple Saver System manufactured by Thermal Design Inc., Stoughton, Wis., was provided for the insulation and interior finishing system. B-D Construction installed the R-25 wall system after the exterior wall panels were installed and relied upon the fall protection feature with Thermal Design’s R-35 roof system. The enhanced Super White UVMAX coating on the Simple Saver roof system provides a bright white finished appearance, which directly compliments the abundant amount of natural daylight entering the facility from each orientation.
The overall erection time frame was only five months. “The most challenging piece to the project was the extensive coordination needed between the conventional building components, architectural aesthetics and the pre-engineered structure to make it all work together in the end,” notes Chris Langan, project manager with B-D Construction.
The beautiful three-level, 65,000 square foot multipurpose field house opened in October 2012 and is enjoyed by a variety of students and organizations including Creighton Athletics, intramural and club sports. The new facility offers a synthetic field turf, rock-climbing wall, fitness areas with cardio, circuit training and free weight equipment. There is also a suspended two-lane running track and a fitness mezzanine, all supported by the metal building.
