Sterlington Elementary School, Sterlington, La.

sterlington_elementary Located in Sterlington, La., Sterlington Elementary School, was designed by TBA Studio, West Monroe, La. TBA chose crayons as the main design motif for the school. Drawing inspiration from Sterlington Elementary’s mission statement, “to provide a safe environment in which all children can learn,” TBA created a space where primary colors and shapes help students, faculty and guests navigate and interact with the building. Each corridor is designated a specific shape and color, such as orange squares, yellow circles and green triangles.

In addition to using an abundance of color, a number of metal products were used in the school’s construction. The 76,000-square-foot building features 35,500 square feet of 24-gauge, 16-inch Wave Panel wall system from Houston-based Architectural Building Components. The panels are finished in a Valspar-Fluropon finish and Valspar Valflon finish produced by Minneapolis-based Valspar. The roof features 66,600 square feet of standing seam metal panels from Architectural Integrated Metals Inc., Columbus, Ga., while the walls feature 3,300 square feet of A.I.M. metal wall panels. The roof also includes 49,500 square feet of EPICORE longspan acoustical decking from EPIC Metals Corp., Rankin, Pa. Owned by the Ouachite Parish School Board, Monroe, La., Mann’s Construction, West Monroe, served as the general contractor and installer on the project.
