Office & Mixed-Use

Courtyard a welcome amenity

Originally built in 1969 by noted architect Edward Durell Stone, Constitution Center is one of the largest privately owned office buildings in Washington, D.C. The current owner, The David Nassif Co., completely renovated the 10-story building to meet the goals of providing a comfortable, efficient workplace.

A one-acre garden courtyard acts as a welcome amenity for tenants, both by access and visual interest, while also working as a green roof above basement garage space for 1,500 vehicles. The amount of green space will increase by 700 percent from the prior building. One of the features of the calm, reflective courtyard is a compound radius curved wall covered with Woburn, Mass.-based RHEINZINK’s flat lock vertical panels, fabricated by MetalTech-USA of Peachtree City, Ga. Along with a sculpture by Richard Deutsch, the blue-gray zinc curved wall is designed to add a meditative focal point in the light-filled garden. SmithGroup, Washington, D.C., was the architect. Prospect Waterproofing, Sterling, Va., was the installer.
