Classic car museum adds new expansion

The National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky., recently underwent a vast renovation and expansion. Originally opened in 1994, the museum added a 47,000-square-foot (4,366-m2) expansion, creating a total of 115,000 square feet(10,684 m2). The new addition boasts a gift shop, library and archive center, conference center and The Corvette Café—an indoor track where new corvettes are displayed. The museum decided to expand due to its increased popularity over the years, and the new facility is now hosting more than 150,000 visitors annually.

Moon Township, Pa.-based CENTRIA supplied 17,082 square feet (1,587 m2) of its 22/26-gauge Formawall Graphix Series 2-inch (51-mm) horizontal metal wall panels in Silver with an embossed Sundance AM coating; 4,361 square feet (405 m2) of 22/26-gauge Formawall Dimension Series 2-inch horizontal metal wall panels in Silver with an embossed Sundance AM coating; and 1,505 square feet (140 m2) of 22-gauge Concept Series CS-660E in Silver with a smooth Sundance AM coating.

The addition required building materials that would integrate well with the existing building. The building team chose CENTRIA’s Formawall Dimension Series, Formawall Graphix Series and Concept Series panels for their aesthetics that add a cohesive, yet unique, look to the museum. All three products have received Cradle to Cradle Silver certification.

The Formawall Dimension Series panels were used on the original portion of the museum, while the Formawall Grahix Sereis added a distinctive look to the museum. The Concept Series 660E panels allowed the building team to create a truly customized exterior design befitting the classic cars displayed within.

Sherman Carter Barnhart Architects in Lexington, Ky., was the architect; Scott, Murphy & Daniel LLC, Bowling Green, was the general contractor; and South State Contractors Inc., Bowling Green, was the dealer and installer.
