The 68,200-square-foot (6,336-m2) Watson Arena at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, features a 90- by 200-foot (27- by 61-m) ice surface. The facility has a seating capacity of 1,900 and includes locker rooms, equipment storage areas and athletic training facilities.
The $20 million facility has the most-efficient refrigeration system and best dehumidification system, seating design and home team accommodations of any Division III collegiate arena. Also planned is a 360-space parking lot.
The arena’s 70,000-square-foot (6,503-m2) standing-seam metal roof from Englert Inc., Perth Amboy, N.J.; extensive stormwater management plan; construction site material recycling; and water efficient fixtures in restrooms and locker rooms will aid in the project receiving LEED credits.
Englert supplied its LEED-compliant Series 1300 Everglade Moss metal roof panels for the project. The Everglade Moss color was a perfect match to the other campus structures around the arena.
Procon, Hookset, N.H., was the general contractor, and Industrial Roofing Corp., Lewiston, Maine, was the installer.
