RHEINZINK America Inc., Woburn, Mass., supplied approximately 2,000 square feet (186 m2) of Preweathered Blue-Gray perforated, corrugated fence panels for the new Orem YMCA in Houston, which features an outdoor play area and swimming pool. The fence panels provide security, as well as durability and an aesthetic appeal for the neighborhood facility.
Brave Architecture, Houston, provided a new design concept for the 25,000-square-foot (2,323- m2) YMCA. “The Orem Y has all of the amenities of a traditional YMCA but is smaller in size with a more
‘neighborhood’ feel,” said Greg Ryden, project manager. “The design really focused on the exterior pool and play area. That obviously required the necessary security. We created a unique fencing system that combined varying depth RHEINZINK perforated panels installed above a traditional vinyl coated fence.”
The 8-foot (2-m) RHEINZINK panels were installed horizontally with 3-, 4- and 5-foot (0.9-, 1.2- and 1.5-m) panel depths. “We designed a rhythmic pattern that looks quite attractive while providing privacy and security and also allowing airflow,” Ryden said.
The panels were fabricated by Metal Tech- USA, Peachtree City, Ga., and installed by Astro Fence, Houston.
