The owner of the H. Management Center in McAllen, Texas, told the architect, Frank P. Key & Associates, AIA, McAllen, that he wanted a good-looking building with low maintenance and energy efficiency at a good price with a good warranty. The architect chose metal due to its reflectance value and 20-year warranty of the Glavalume Plus material.
The project required approximately 25,000 square feet (2,323 m2) of 24-gauge Galvalume Plus Double-Lok SSR metal roof panels by MBCI, Houston, on the 33,000-square-foot (3,066-m2) building. Additionally, 4,600 square feet (427 m2) of 22-gauge Galvalume Plus FW120, a flat wall panel, was utilized.
While under construction, the building was hit by a hurricane and survived the winds without any leaking, according to the architect.
He also said he thinks the beauty of the metal panels is enhanced by the use of other exposed metals on the building, such as exposed steel beams and columns as architectural elements. Valcon Inc., McAllen, was the general contractor, and Tri City Steel, Pharr, Texas, was the metal installer.
