At the recent U.S. Green Building Council Green Scene event, Lexington, Ky.-based Big Ass Fans was awarded a LEED Gold plaque for their new 45,000-square-foot R&D Facility by the USGBC Blue Grass Chapter President and Chairman Jeff Moneypenny. The event was held on November 4, 2009 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at the R&D facility and included informative tours of the space for attendees while educating them on the benefits of energy-efficient, 6 to 24-foot Big Ass Fans. The Gold Certified testing facility uses 35 percent less energy and 60 percent less water than a standard commercial building and was the first commercial building to be certified Gold in Kentucky by the USGBC. Members of the Kentucky Cabinet in attendance included Finance and Administration Cabinet Secretary Jonathan Miller and Energy and Environment Cabinet Deputy Secretary Hank List, both of who recognized Big Ass Fans’ achievement and honored the company for striving to meet Kentucky’s sustainability goals. Commerce Lexington’s President and CEO Bob Quick also attended. Tours of Big Ass Fans’ Gold Certified facility or manufacturing facility can be scheduled by calling (877) 244-3267.
