To consolidate five departments of the City of Greenwood’s Department of Public Works in one building, a multi-part metal building structure was designed and built. The City of Greenwood Department of Public Works’ facility, houses the Fleet, Maintenance Department, Parks Department, Sanitation Department, Storm Water Department and Street Department.

American Buildings Co. supplied three connected, pre-engineered metal building gabled structures. The metal building systems are 80 feet, 7 inches wide by 121 feet, 11 inches long, 80 feet, 7 inches wide by 339 feet, 3 inches long, and 67 feet, 11 inches wide by 70 feet, 1 3/4 inches long. The facility is 52,000 square feet.

The job site is in a low-lying area. Poor site conditions were a challenge during construction. To stabilize soil, 1,100 aggregate piers were installed under the building pad. Frequent communication among trades workers was required to coordinate masonry, insulated metal panel (IMP) installation, storefront installation and overhead door installation. The project included coordination of maintenance equipment, a crane, lifts, hose reels and mechanical equipment.

At the roof, American Buildings’ 24-gauge steel Standing Seam 360 in Dark Bronze were installed. For walls, American Buildings supplied its 3-inch thick DM40-Double Mesa IMPs in Warm White and two textures. Roberts Glass and Service supplied its storefront system.
