Atlanta’s Buckhead community, 3344 Peachtree was completed this past spring. The 50-story, 635- foot (194-m) tall mixed-use building includes 82 living units from floors 28 through 50, with residential amenities, offices and parking on the remaining levels.
Mooresville, Ind.-based LinEl Signature manufactured the exterior column covers at the ground level entrance. The column covers are artistically designed to reflect and blend with the graceful and nonconventional architecture of the building. The columns pierce a first-level canopy and extend upward to shoulder the base of the third level. LinEl supplied a custom aluminum plate system for the project.
The column covers are elliptical, with the upper and lower portions featuring beveled faces that intersect the covers at an angle and are recessed back from the plane of the covers to create shadowing and visual interest. The recessed faces are connected by a continuous recessed reveal up the height of the column. The elliptical covers transfer to the interior of the building. Two custom color coatings were used to complement the project’s color scheme.
The architect was Smallwood Reynolds Steward & Associates, Atlanta; the general contractor was Hardin Construction Co., Atlanta; and the contract glazier was JAMCO, Atlanta.
