The Labatt Food Service distribution center in Houston utilized approximately 140,000 square feet (13,006 m2) of Metl-Span insulated panels in three panel types by Metl-Span, Lewisville, Texas. The $14 million project featured 148,000 square feet (13,749 m2) of space including a two-story office and storage areas for dry goods, perishables and frozen foods on a 21-acre (8-hectare) site.
Approximately 93,000 square feet (8,640 m2) of 26-gauge CF-42 fluted wall panels in 3-, 4- and 6-inch (76-, 102- and 152-mm) thicknesses in Sandstone made up the interior and exterior cold storage walls. Nearly 31,000 square feet (2,880 m2) of 26-gauge CF-45 Mesa wall panels in 2- and 4-inch (51- and 102-mm) thicknesses in Igloo White were also used along with 12,000 square feet (1,115 m2) of Metl-Span’s Tuff-Wall panels in Light Stone around the two-story office portion.
The Tuff-Wall panels provide a stucco-like finish that is highly resistant to impact and abrasion. Approximately 4,800 square feet (446 m2) of 4-inch ThermalSafe panels were used as a firewall around the forklift battery-charge area. The fireresistive insulated panels consist of metal facings bonded to a structural mineral wood core.
Specialists in the construction of food facilities, TEAM Group Ltd., Euless, Texas, provided design-build services for the project, and Southwest Vault Builders, Lewisville, installed the Metl-Span panels.
