Graphics firm chooses metal for new facility

When Fifth Sun Graphics, Chico, Calif., needed a new office building and warehouse in less than a year, its officials learned that a metal building system was the best choice. The builder, Conroy Construction Inc., Chico, turned to Modern Building Co., Chico, for a metal building system by VP Buildings, Memphis, Tenn., to create a 42,000-square-foot (3,902-m2) facility for the graphic design and distribution company of licensed and private label apparel.

Completed in October 2007, the new facility was done in just 11 months and is a combination of conventional and pre-engineered construction. VP’s Continuous Beam Open Web frame was used for the main structure. The architectural standing-seam roof is in Colonial Red, and a combination of exterior wall panel systems from VP include panel rib and TextureClad with stucco facing in Classic Beige. The cylindrical portions of the building presented special challenges, but the engineers at VP were able to make it all work, according to Gary Fowler, a partner at Modern Building. Russell, Gallaway Associates Inc., Chico, was the architect on the project.
