Metal Building and Roof Used for New Maintenance Facility

The Caltrain centralized equipment maintenance and operations facility in San Jose, Calif., is a state-of-the-art maintenance and operations facility on the site of the old Southern Pacific rail yard. The new facility was built to replace existing Caltrain rail maintenance facilities. The new building accommodates many critical activities, including daily inspections, scheduled maintenance, running repairs, train washing and storage.

The facility consists of several buildings and uses a variety of Moon Township, Pa.-based CENTRIA products. The project used 9,500 square feet (883 m2) of Formawall Dimension Series, 22/26-gauge, 2-inch (51-mm), embossed, Fluorofinish Classic II in platinum; 3,200 square feet (297 m2) 3,200 square feet (297 m2) of 20-guage Super-Rib coated with Fluorofinish Classic II in platinum; and 19,200 square feet (1,784 m2) of 20-gauge Super-Rib with Microseam Corners with Valfl on 3-Coat coating with Clear in carmine red. The facility also used 6,200 square feet (576 m2) of 22-gauge embossed striated Versawall coated in Fluorofinish Classic II in platinum and 24,800 square feet (2,304 m2) of 22-gauge embossed striated Versawall coated in Duragard Plus in bone white. Also used in the project was 8,200 square feet (762 m2) of 22-gauge SRS 3 1.5 roof panels and 1,500 square feet (139 m2) of 22-gauge SRS 3 1.5 curved roof panels.

The wall panels used include 5,500 square feet (511 m2) of 20-gauge IW10 vertical panels coated with Valspar Polyester in Arctic Ice; 3,500 square feet (325 m2) of 20-gauge IW10 vertical panels coated with Fluorofinish Classic II in platinum; 7,700 square feet (715 m2) of 20-gauge IW10 horizontal panels coated in Duragard Plus in bone white; and 700 square feet (65 m2) of 20-gauge IW60A horizontal panels coated in Fluorofinish Classic II in platinum. All wall and roof panels were finished in plain mill finish smooth.

The metal dealer for the project was A.C. Dellovade, Cannonsburg, Pa. STV, Los Angeles, was the architect, and the general contractors were a joint venture between Shimmick, Hayward, Calif., and Obayashi, South San Francisco, Calif.
