Metal building system forms sales office

TJK Design Build Inc. designed a sales office in Madison, Wis., for Trane Inc. with a metal building system instead of conventional construction for its open-structure capability, construction flexibility and cost effectiveness. The contemporary design provides an open floor plan and wall area for daylighting. The project consisted of three of Star Building Systems' single-slope buildings with 10,550 total square feet.

The entrance building in the middle is attached to the taller supporting buildings by bracketed rafters. The entrance building sidewall was designed to support glass and Trespa International BV's high-pressure laminate panels with 20-gauge metal stud wall framing. The taller buildings have 26-gauge AVP metal wall panels in Medium Bronze at the top and Colonial Red at the bottom.

The two taller buildings have various elevations and 8-inch, split-face block at the base. The taller buildings have 5-foot projection canopies. The high side has a 2-foot projection. All the projections have 26-gauge PBR soffit panels in Colonial Red. Thermal Design Inc.'s Simple Saver System insulation was installed. Additional energy-efficient features include a specialized HVAC system, deep overhang and 1-inch, gray-tinted, insulated low-E glazing with thermally broken aluminum framing. The project broke ground in December 2014 and was completed in May 2015.
