Metal is Smart Choice for Dealership Renovation

Completed in January, H2M Architects, Melville, N.Y., worked on the development, design and renovation of the Mercedes-Benz of Smithtown and Smart Center, Smithtown, N.Y. Both dealerships are members of the six-member Competition Automotive Group. The H2M team renovated an existing facility and provided building design, engineering, civil engineering, land surveying and landscape architecture for Long Island’s first Smart Car location.

An outdated existing single-story building was completely renovated on the exterior and interior for the new 5,510-square-foot (512-m2) Smart Center Smithtown. The new building façade features a black cement stucco system applied directly to the existing masonry and a black metal panel canopy system that surrounds the entire building.

The canopy utilizes 2,550 square feet (237 m2) of 0.040 aluminum composite panels with a dry system by United Panel Technologies, Hauppauge, N.Y. The building features a showroom with office space, an automotive service area and a parts department.
